Buttons have always been on my top three of favourite things. I keep collecting them, sometimes I get so excited about old buttons that I almost have to quickly shove them back into the jar because I can't stand it. (Yes, I have many, many conditions.)
November is my favourite time to think about Christmas. Its early in the year, so I don't have to listen to people whine about
all the stuff they still have to get done, and I can putter around the house at my leisure, putting out some of the treasures from my four large boxes of Christmassy stuff.
Last year I was mildly obsessed with sewing ecclectic table runners, so in '06, I've been allowing a few yummy buttons to escape their jars and become part of the Christmas spread.
My most current happy place has been stringing these button and bead concoctions. The Bee-u-tiful red star in the centre was a gift from a friend, and became the inspiration for this buttony craze.
Buttons, stars, and vintage ornaments. What's not to love?

I can't believe you're making me ask: what are the other two favourite things?
well, Duh.... BEER and WINGS!
You astound me.
Beautiful.
OH!
You inspire me.
My buttons sit in jars, because if I actually USE them, I cannot possess them.
I hear my button collection yelling 'free us, free us!'

A woman after my own heart!!! I adore buttons, beads, paper, fabric...
I'm doing my best to make my girls fall in love with them too. My legacy! My mom is the same way, she's been lamenting that she left a jar of orange buttons behind at the thrift store (did you buy them?). I keep checking back there just in case someone re-gifted them to charity.
I love the strings of buttons, I may steal that idea because Ava would love to help with that.
Thanks!

H- okay, I'm gonna play the mennonite game just a little. Are you related to any Campbells in the Brandon area?
And Ava. What a great name.
If you are a button and fabric lover, I may just have to invite you to my "ugly sweater" party.
Details to follow....
Nope, no Campbells in Brandon. My dad's family is from SK. No problem being asked though, there aren't too many Mennonite Campbells out there. Dad fully embraced the Menno theology when he met my Mom. Well, the mid-to-left wing of it anyway!
Ooooh, the ugly sweater party. Interest peaked!

Oh my gosh joyce I love these. You have amazing creativity. Here in CAlui my parents live two blocks from about 100 antique and vintage clothing/ quilting shops. Growing up i enjoyed it, but now even more, I was actually thinking of you today as I was walking in the balmy 22 degrees with Eiley past all the shops with amazing vintage things, so why don't you come over this afternoon and we will hit the shops? sound good? see you at 2 =)...... ish it were that easy hugs to you- svea

I think the 'party' is here in your comments... my side is hurting from laughing!
I know just how you feel about getting so excited about something you have to put it away quick. Oh, my god...I'm not alone, I'm not alone!!!
Can we submit photos of our ugly sweaters?(I've got some beauts) I think Kansas is too far away for a quick drive up.
ldahl: can you believe I lived in Kansas for six months? The booming metropolis of Wichita. wow.
I'm thrilled at the tentative response to the ugly sweaters. Oh, the posts I could post....
It is a small world! I can believe anything(I've found 'truth is stranger than fiction)... my Wichita saga is War and Peace. I haven't been back there in a long time, but I have friends there still.
Keep me posted on the sweater thing, I will go to the Ugly Archives today and see if I can find some real losers:)))
